For the second year, Federal Way will honor everyday heroes whose quiet impacts on the lives of others deserve recognition.
I Celebrate You, sponsored by Write a Blessing Media founder and Federal Way resident Nandell Palmer, pays tribute to society’s selfless contributors. The free event is slated for Nov. 21 and serves as a reminder that our closest loved ones — and their life-impacting deeds — should not be taken for granted.
“Sometimes a lot of us need to be jolted and reminded about giving back,” said Palmer, who also contributes a column to The Mirror. “I want to send a message that it’s never too late or too early to say thank you.”
Whether recognizing the single mother who put her kids through college, or honoring the teacher who kept kids from dropping out, I Celebrate You helps foster “that sense of giving back, that joy of seeing people feel celebrated,” Palmer said. “I want it to be about community spirit.”
In 2009, 25 local residents were “celebrated” amid a cultural evening of dance, music and poetry.
This year’s celebration will feature local talent including Korean dancers and student jazz musicians. There will be a special dedication for Federal Way High School students who set up a graduation ceremony last December for classmate Leticia Granados, who died of cancer just weeks later.
