On Oct. 30, French Lake Dog Park in Federal Way was the site of the first Howl-O-Ween event for dogs sponsored by Park Pals. The Howl-O-Ween party was complete with a bone hunt, photo station and costume contest.
Although the weather did not cooperate, raining steadily for the entire event, about 40 dogs and their owners came to enjoy the party.
The photo station provided owners with the opportunity to take pictures of their furry friends in costume. Bentley, a young bulldog, dressed as a clown and his mom got a great photo.
The bone hunt was a hit with many dogs, including Phoebe, a 2-year-old yellow lab who loved sniffing out and enjoying a few yummy treats.
Many dogs entered the costume contest. Clever costumes included a lab in a love bug outfit, a basset hound as a dinosaur, a Chihuahua in a lobster costume and many others. Judges chose the winners in the areas of best costume, pet and owner, scariest and judge’s pick. Guest judges included Mayor Linda Kochmar; Shaun Hellesto from Mail, Copy and More; and Michele Hugill, a Park Pals volunteer.
“This was a great event. We had excellent participation considering the weather, and I think everyone had a fun time. I can’t wait for next year’s event,” said JoAnn Hugill, president of Park Pals.
Park Pals sold calendars for 2011 along with other merchandise, as well as accepted donations, to raise money for the park. Calendars are still for sale and information about purchasing them or other items can be found on the Park Pals website at www.parkpals.org or by e-mailing info@parkpals.org.
Park Pals is a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting French Lake Dog Park and raising funds for park-related improvements and expenses.
