Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

Would-be thieves get busy in grocery store: At 12:45 p.m. on April 20 in the 1200 block of S. 320th St., a man was observed eating food from a store’s deli/hot food area without paying for the food. When confronted, the man fled to the store’s restroom and locked himself in. While store employees were busy with the first man, a second man was observed attempting to steal approximately $180 in groceries from the store. The report notes the first man was issued a trespass notice from the store, while the second man was detained.

Photography session causes worries: At 1:48 p.m. on April 20 in the 5000 block of SW 310th St., a person reported seeing an older man taking photographs of a much younger woman at a private beach. According to the report, the woman was nude. The report notes police contacted the man and woman. The man said he’s a professional photographer and the woman said she’s a professional model. Both denied any nude photographs were being taken.

Good samaritan’s phone stolen: At 11:22 p.m. on April 20 in the 1100 block of S. 320th St., a woman was approached by a female at the Safeway store, who asked her for a ride. The woman agreed, and the ride was uneventful, according to the report. After dropping the unknown woman off, the first woman noticed her phone was missing. The report indicates the victim was able to briefly track her phone until it was apparently turned off.

Bar patrons beat up husband and wife: At 2:04 a.m. on April 19 in the 28000 block of Military Road S., a number of patrons at a bar assaulted a husband and wife. The report notes the husband and wife were intoxicated.

According to the report, the wife said “the Samoans were kicking her.” When asked further about why the group kicked her, or who they were, the wife was unable to provide any further information. A witness indicated that the group were not regulars and beat the couple for unknown reasons. The report notes the investigation was ended because both the husband and wife became increasingly uncooperative the longer police spoke with them.

Woman arrested for assault: At 3:47 a.m. on April 19 in the 800 block of SW 306th St., a woman was arrested for assaulting the father of her children.

Mailboxes vandalized: At 7:28 a.m. on April 19 in the 33000 block of 39th Ave. SW, a woman called to report vandalism to her mailbox. According to the report, the woman indicated this was the most recent in a string of incidents regarding her mailboxes. The woman said that her mailbox and two others were destroyed in recent months, by what she described as a “pipe bomb.”

Juvenile arrested for assaulting mother: At 1:51 p.m. on April 19 in the 1900 block of SW Campus, a juvenile male was arrested for assaulting his mother. The report notes the assault took place in the presence of two female siblings.

Homeowner spooks would-be burglars: At 2:02 p.m. on April 19 in the 1700 block of S. 282nd Place, a woman reported that two males attempted to burglarize her residence while she was at home. According to the report, the suspects threw a rock through a window in the victim’s residence, at which time they realized she was home. They fled the area, according to the report. The victim described them as both about 6 feet tall, with one wearing a black hoodie and the other a gray hoodie.

Man forces his way behind the counter at pharmacy: At 5:55 p.m. on April 18 in the 33000 block of Ninth Ave. S., someone reported that a man forced his way behind the counter at a pharmacy and stole two bottles of cough syrup with codeine. According to the report, the suspect pushed his way into the back area, and then also used force while acquiring the bottles of cough syrup.

Man discovers surprise when he brings new acquaintance back to hotel room: At 12:18 p.m. on April 17  in the 32000 block of 25th Ave. S., a man reported a theft of his property. According to the report, the man brought back an acquaintance to his hotel room who he believed was a woman. At some point during the night, he discovered that the person was in fact not a woman, at which time he lost interest in any amorous activities. The man didn’t ask the person to leave, and fell asleep shortly thereafter. The man believed it was during the time he was asleep that the person stole a number of items belonging to him.

Purse snatcher at mall: At 7:20 p.m. on April 19 in the 1900 block of S. Commons, a woman reported that she was the victim of a purse snatching. According to the report, the victim and her daughter were “walking in the alley in between the theaters and Kohl’s towards the mall entrance.” The victim was holding her purse when a “male suspect ran behind them and forcefully grabbed her purse from her hand.” The suspect then fled to a waiting vehicle. The victim’s daughter said she thought she knew the suspect from her time at Todd Beamer High School. Both the victim and her daughter were able to successfully identify the suspect from a photo montage, resulting in the suspect’s eventual arrest.

Tragedy averted at Community Center pool: At 2:24 p.m. on April 19 in the 800 block of S. 337th St., police responded to a possible drowning call at the Federal Way Community Center. According to the report, a 5-year-old was fully submerged underwater for approximately 30 seconds. The report notes that South King Fire and Rescue were on scene by the time police arrived and successfully revived the child. It’s believed the child may have suffered a seizure while swimming, causing the issue.
