From staff reports:

Federal Way Mayor Skip Priest invited a handful of Green Gables Elementary students to City Hall earlier this month. The students pictured had written a letter to the mayor to share ideas for improving their local park, Alderdale Park.

Although the park can’t be changed at this time, the mayor still took the students on a tour of City Hall on Nov. 9 and listened to their park plans. Priest will also visit Maya Lopez’s class at Green Gables and answer questions from her classmates.

“It was a great learning opportunity for the kids as well a great chance for them to be active citizens in their community,” wrote Andrea Lopez, whose children attended the meeting. “I thought it is a great reminder that even little people have a voice and can make big changes if we let them ‘speak.’”
