From staff reports:
A grandmother from Auburn has been charged with three counts of child molestation, spanning over several years, including time when she lived in Federal Way.
Rose Johnson is accused of sexually molesting her great nephew and her grandchildren. The abuse allegedly occurred from 2001 to 2005. According to charging papers, Johnson moved around frequently during that time period, spending the majority of her time in Kent, but also living in Auburn and Federal Way.
Johnson was a suspect in a 2008 case for physical and sexual abuse involving her great nephew, according to charging papers, but the case was ultimately closed due to the inability to substantiate the victim’s statements.
More recently, the Auburn Police Department opened a case after Johnson’s 12-year-old granddaughter came forward alleging that Johnson made her eat human feces and urine as punishment when she and her brother visited and eventually lived with Johnson in Kent, according to charging papers. The charging papers stated that there were a total of six children who were abused by Johnson. Two of the victims — ages 4 and 5 at the time — allege that Johnson made them touch each other while she watched, according to charging papers. Two of the children, brother and sister, were forced to have intercourse with each other while Johnson watched, the papers said.
In the report written by a Kent police officer used in the charging papers, “All of the victims knew what Rose Johnson was making them do was wrong” and “they did as they were told out of fear of being ‘whooped’ if they refused.”
Much of the physical abuse reported to authorities occurred outside the statute of limitations on assault, according to charging papers. Prosecutors have charged Johnson with three counts of first-degree child molestation. Prosecutors have asked for $150,000 bail, and Johnson is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Kent.
