South King Fire and Rescue firefighters rescued two from a house fire this morning.
A 15-year-old boy and his grandfather were transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Crews were called to the house, located in the 2600 block of SW 332nd St., at approximately 8:30 a.m.
As firefighters arrived, Capt. Jeff Bellinghausen said there were people screaming that there were people inside. They found the grandfather in the front room, unconscious, and the teenager in the hallway on the floor. Both had heartbeats were unconscious from smoke inhalation.
Bellinghausen said the boy, who attends Todd Beamer High School, is being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. His grandfather is still in critical condition.
Bellinghausen also said firefighters attribute finding the victims to new thermal imaging cameras that were purchased a week ago. The smoke had completely filled the house to where it was only a foot from the floor.
While firefighters were able to save some pets, others didn’t make it.
“Our thoughts go strictly to the family,” Bellinghausen said, noting they helped give the boy’s mother a ride to the hospital after she arrived on scene.
