Organizers of the annual Federal Way Farmers Market Apple Festival & Run have committed to donating $5 per participant to those affected by the eastern Washington wildfires.

The event will be held on Aug. 2 and the funds will be directed to the Red Cross. Monetary donations will also be accepted that day at the market’s information booth.

The Washington wildfire is the largest recorded fire in our state’s history. Some 200 homes have been lost. Many in the affected communities have been without power and water and smokey conditions have reduced air quality.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the festival will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival and farmers market will be located in the usual spot at the Federal Way Commons Mall parking lot near Sears.
