The city of Federal Way is holding a free “Backyard Chickens” workshop from 6-8 p.m. March 12 at Federal Way City Hall. The workshop is set to cover all the details about how to care for a small flock of hens in a limited space.
Workshop instructors from the organization Seattle Tilth will share tips on health, nutrition and shelter for backyard chickens.
The city has been providing these workshop in recent years, as the popularity of backyard chickens and other small livestock has continued to grow. In Federal Way, the demand increased to an extent that the city had to revisit its code and adjust accordingly.
This workshop is part of a larger “Green Living Workshop” series the city puts on throughout the year. The workshops are held the second Wednesday of each month (except in August and December) from 6-8 p.m. The workshops are set to touch on sustainable landscaping, rain gardens to “go green” holidays and other sustainable living topics.
