The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Man with paraphernalia steals: At 10:38 a.m. on March 28 at 31601 Pacific Highway S., a male suspect was found stealing from Best Buy. The suspect consented to a police search, and officers found two “drug pipes.” The man was trespassed and cited for drug paraphernalia.
Suspicious man in neighborhood; school goes on lockdown: At 12:33 a.m. on March 28 in the 1000 block of SW 326th St., a neighbor reported a suspicious male trying car door handles in the neighborhood and then entering a backyard. The male jumped a fence to exit the yard, and the witness followed him until the man fled down a greenbelt. Investigating officers checked the area and did not find the man. They also checked the residence with the yard that the man had entered and found no evidence the doors or windows had been tampered with. Federal Way schools, hearing related reports on the radio, had put Silverlake Elementary school on lockdown. Officers cleared the call and the lockdown was canceled.
Shoplifter puts up “huge struggle,” is arrested: At 4:16 p.m. on March 28 at The Commons Mall, a suspect was stopped by Macy’s loss prevention staff for suspected shoplifting. The suspect “put up a huge struggle” and police were contacted. The suspect was arrested for theft and booked into SCORE Jail on an outstanding warrant out of Puyallup.
Teen assaults mom, juvie refuses to take her: At 7:45 p.m. on March 28 in the 35000 block of 16th Ave. S., police responded to a report of a 15-year-old female who had assaulted her mother by throwing a computer at her and “punching her several times.” The 15-year-old was arrested and processed, but she was ultimately released back to her residence “due to Juvenile Hall not accepting her due to her age.”
Student hears voices telling him to kill: At 1:45 p.m. on March 29 at 3800 SW 320th St., officers responded to Decatur High School staff reporting that a student heard “voices” telling him to kill people. The student told interviewing officers that he is compelled to “follow through on wha[t] the ‘voices’ are telling him” and repeated to officers that he wanted to kill someone. The student then started to shiver and balled up into a fetal position. He further told officers that he takes medication that doesn’t work. The student was involuntarily committed.
Intoxicated man urinates on wall: At 2:30 p.m. on March 29 in the 1800 block of S. 320th St., officers saw a man on the side of the Ulta Beauty business urinating on a wall. The man was “very intoxicated,” according to interviewing officers, and was taken into custody after being deemed unable to care for himself.
Drunk juvenile falls, is sent to hospital: At 4:15 p.m. on March 29 in the 2200 block of S. Star Lake Road, officers were dispatched to an apartment for an intoxicated juvenile who had fallen. Officers determined that the juvenile “had drank [sic] a large amount of liquor and fell down the stairs, striking his head.” The juvenile, highly intoxicated and bearing “a large bump on his head,” was transported to a hospital. A younger brother present was placed in the care of neighbors until the boys’ mother returned home.
Houses burgled: At 9:06 p.m. on March 29 in the 2200 block of S. 288th Place, officers responded to a report of a recent burglary and, upon arrival, found that two neighboring residences had been burglarized. Evidence was located and seized for processing.
Homeless man lights hibachi in front of library: At 10:36 p.m. on March 29 at 34200 1st Way S., police and fire were dispatched to a possible fire in front of the library. The crews found a small, lit hibachi grill with its lid closed about 5 feet from the library entrance. Fire officials extinguished the grill with water. During the investigation, a male approached holding wooden branches. He said he was homeless and cold and, with nowhere to go, wanted to build a fire for warmth. The man was trespassed from the property.
Graphic, anonymous documents left for businesses: Between 11 p.m. on March 30 and 7:55 a.m. on March 31, an unknown person left copies of a seven-page document – mostly typed but with some hand-written areas – in front of Deseret Industries (2200 S. 320th St., Suite 1A), Woodstone Credit Union (1825 S. 316th St.) and an unspecified dance studio. The document describes “in graphic detail” alleged “actual accounts of murder, sexual assault, torture and kidnapping.”
Rocket found, recovered by Army: At 3:45 p.m. on March 31 in the 300 block of S. 308th St., a resident cleaning their garage found a “training rocket.” The rocket was found to be without fuel and explosives, and Army personnel from Ft. Lewis responded and recovered the item.
Intoxicated man lies in middle of street, citizens try to help: At 11:25 p.m. on April 1 in the intersection of S. 312th St. and 1st Ave. S., officers saw a man lying on the side of road with three citizens attempting to help him. Officers noted the man was intoxicated, and the man told them he “had problems with his wife” and admitted to consuming alcohol and not taking some medications he required. One of the citizens reported finding the man in the middle of 1st Ave. S. and helping him to the curb so he wouldn’t get hit by a vehicle. The man, unable to move or stand, was involuntarily committed.
Apparent MS-13 graffiti found on vehicle: At 11:10 p.m. on April 2 in the 3000 block of S. 288th St., an officer was flagged down by a male who pointed out his van, which had been spray-painted with blue paint. Officers noted that the graffiti appeared to be linked with the MS-13 street gang. No suspects or additional witnesses were found.
