The male was found to have an arrest warrant out of King County, and during the resulting search was found to have “a baggie containing a black tar like substance” in his jacket. The man was booked into SCORE Jail.

Employee threatens shop owner: At 9:51 a.m. on July 5 in the 1600 block of South 312th Street, officers contacted a man in response to reports of a verbal threat. The man said he owns Pop’s Pizza and Pasta, and he had cut the hours of an employee a few days prior because he believed the employee was using drugs. The man said the employee returned to the shop the day after and caused a scene while threatening the owner and his shop. The employee left, but he called the owner multiple times over the next few days until the owner blocked the employee’s number. The owner asked police to document the incident out of concern for the employee’s drug use, erratic behavior and access to firearms. No crime was committed, but officers provided the owner information on obtaining a protection order and told him to call 911 if the employee returned.

Suspicious man in park picked up on $25,000 warrant: At 12:01 p.m. on July 6 at 2410 S. 312th St., officers were dispatched to a call of a suspicious male “possibly trying to set a small fire at Steel Lake Park.” Police made contact with the male, who identified himself, leading officers to find that he had an outstanding $25,000 indecent exposure warrant from Auburn. The man was arrested without incident and booked into SCORE Jail. No signs of fire damage were observed.

Alzheimer’s patient tries to choke victim: At 4:55 p.m. on July 7 in the 2000 block of Southwest 338th Street, officers responded to reports of an assault. The suspect reportedly attempted to grab the victim around the neck, but there were no injuries. Investigation revealed the suspect had arrived from a behavioral hospital and was suffering from advanced-stage Alzheimer’s disease and the associated dementia. Interviewing officers noted it was apparent that the suspect did not understand who they were, where he was, or what had happened. The case was deemed to be “legally insufficient due to lack of criminal culpability,” and police made arrangements to have the suspect transported to another more secure facility.

Victim gets unwanted credit: At 12:30 p.m. on July 9 in the 32000 block of Pacific Highway South, a victim reported she’d been with two unknown males (they had met two days prior) at West Coast Wheels & Tires. One of the unknown males told the victim to fill out a credit application, and after she refused the male flashed a handgun from under a car seat. No threats were made and the gun was not pointed at the victim, but the victim complied and was approved for $3,000 in credit and transported home. She called to check her account balance and was told “an unknown subject” had picked up the rims. After that, the victim called 911, but she was hesitant to provide details or file a report in person.

Family drinks apart, falls apart: At 3:05 a.m. on July 10 in the 900 block of Southwest Campus Drive, police received a report of a mother and daughter who “both came home from different events very intoxicated. Mom and daughter argued with each other about how neither one of them should be drinking. Mother said her daughter pushed her, but nothing led to an assault.” No injuries were reported or observed, and both mother and daughter were asleep when officers arrived. Case closed.

Driver flees, loses tires: At 11:20 p.m. on July 10 in the 33000 block of 21st Avenue Southwest, a driver fled from a traffic stop. Officers eventually stopped him by using “a tire deflation device” and booked him into custody on warrants and for eluding police.

Former boxer with Alzheimer’s fights caregivers: At 3:09 p.m. on July 11 in the 2000 block of Southwest 352nd Street, police responded to reports of a man at an assisted living center assaulting his caregivers. The man has Alzheimer’s disease and cannot care for himself, but those who try to provide care can’t render aid because the man fights them. The man is a former boxer and is “very capable of seriously injuring someone while avoiding the care he needs.” He was involuntarily committed.
