Authorities have identified the husband who died after his wife said she accidentally stabbed his chest with a kitchen knife on July 2 in Federal Way.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 52-year-old Eric C. Winters. He died of stab wounds to his chest and his manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Winters’s 50-year-old wife is currently being held at the King County Jail in Seattle on $500,000 bail. A judge found probable cause on Saturday to hold her in connection to her husband’s death.

Her second appearance is scheduled for Tuesday at the King County Jail, said Dan Donahoe, spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

Probable Cause documents state the wife called 911 to report the stabbing and told police they were arguing about their home’s mortgage, according to probable cause documents.

She told police she picked up a knife to cut frozen chicken for dinner and accidentally stabbed Winters when he walked about behind her.

The couple’s 18-year-old son told police he heard the couple arguing and came out of his bedroom to see his mother hold a knife. He said he tried to separate the couple but his stepdad went around him.
