Federal Way Public Schools have felt the impact of the peanut butter Salmonella scare.

The peanut butter in question, produced by the Peanut Corporation of America at its plant in Blakely, Ga., is not sold directly to consumers. However, many food manufacturers have used the corporation’s products to make cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream.

Some of the products affected include the “Jane Dough” Dough to Go cookie dough that is sold in school and organization fundraisers. The manufacturer is recommending that the peanut butter flavor cookie dough not be used at this time. No contaminants have been found in any of the products yet; it is merely a precautionary measure. Dough can be kept frozen until more is known.

If students have nutrition bars or cookies in their emergency kits, parents can call or send a note and the item will be removed.

As a precaution, the district has also ordered that all student stores dispose of any snack product that has peanuts or peanut paste as an ingredient. Vendors are also removing peanut products from vending machines at the schools.

The FWPS Nutrition Services Department is monitoring the situation.
