From staff reports:

Federal Way Public Schools has joined with the state in the Race to the Top.

Superintendent Tom Murphy announced the move on May 12, with the support of the Federal Way Education Association.

State Superintendent Randy Dorn and Gov. Christine Gregoire requested that all school districts join them in their quest for the federal funds, which could be up to $250 million for the state.

Each district would be able to compete for $55 million in one of four categories.

If Washington state is awarded a Race to the Top grant, each district would have 90 calendar days to develop a specific plan for implementation and explain how it would use Race to the Top grant funds.
