Federal Way Public Schools is allowing excused absences for students who want to attend the Seahawks Super Bowl victory parade in Seattle on Wednesday.
“For those parents who do want to take their child out of school to attend the parade, we just need a note from them,” said Debra Stenberg, communications director for the district. “The state gives us some flexibility in excusing absences and we have decided to excuse kids from school for this purpose.”
Stenberg noted that the school district will not close any schools or dismiss students early for the parade.
“We are all excited about the Seahawks’ win, but there are too many parents who must work and who would be left scrambling for childcare if we were to do either of those things,” Stenberg added.
Four private schools announced they will close on Wednesday, including Forest Bridge School in Bellevue, Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien, Archbishop Murphy in Everett and Seattle Prep.
The parade will start at 11 a.m. just south of Seattle Center at Denny Way, travel south down Fourth Avenue past Westlake Park and finish at the north entrance of CenturyLink Field around 1:30 p.m.
