Miss Wheelchair USA, local resident Jennifer Lynn Adams, was a featured speaker at the Federal Way Rotary’s Foundation auction gala on Jan. 25.

Adams shared her life story, helping Rotary raise $40,000 for the AbilityWhirl toy slated for the Steel Lake Park “Funland” renovation, which should be enough funding to secure the unique play structure.

The AbilityWhirl is a merry-go-round type of structure designed for special needs/disabled children. The structure at Steel Lake Park will be the first of its kind in the United States.

According to Rotary members, more than 250 people attended the gala.
