Federal Way Public Academy celebrates 10 years

The Federal Way Public Academy has been around for 10 years now and is celebrating that milestone with an open house on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The Federal Way Public Academy has been around for 10 years now and is celebrating that milestone with an open house on Saturday, Dec. 13.

“What we are really celebrating is the main concept of what the academy is about — family,” Principal Kurt Lauer said. “We are united in our mission and belief in hard work, honesty and compassion. We prepare them to be successful. Our focus on family is the most special part.”

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the school, 34620 9th Ave. S. The open house will feature a talk by the school’s founding principal, Dr. Ray Griffin, at 2 p.m.

Former staff and students have been invited back, and Lauer said they have had a great response from former students.

The school has been in its current location since October 2003. FWPA, which serves about 300 students, is a sixth- through 10th-grade college prep school. Admittance in the school is lottery-based and is the most requested choice program in the district. Test scores at the school are the highest in the district.
