Police are still looking into an assault of a 17-year-old girl who was attacked while on her way to a school bus stop earlier this month.
Federal Way police were dispatched to the scene in the 34100 block of 12th Avenue Southwest on June 8. Officers spoke to the girl’s father who had called 911 after his daughter was hit in the back of the head before her phone was stolen.
An officer also interviewed the girl. She said at 6:34 a.m., she was walking to her bus stop on 12th Avenue Southwest and had the hood of her sweatshirt over her head and ear buds in her ears. She was listening to music.
“All of a sudden, she felt someone punch her in the back of her head causing immediate pain,” the police report states. “She looked up and saw a white male in his late 20s, 5 feet, 6 inches, or 5 feet, 7 inches, wearing a blue shirt and gray sweatpants with a neon green stripe down the side.”
The suspect’s hair was also bleached and unkempt, she said.
The male walked toward her and began hitting and punching her in the face and head, according to the report. He then grabbed her cellphone out of her hands, scratching her hand in doing so.
The girl told police the suspect ran north on 12th Avenue Southwest, and she screamed for help but no one responded.
Later that day, an officer followed up with the family after they had found video footage of the suspect.
A neighbor’s doorbell camera captured the suspect walking behind the victim.
“The male appeared several times to motion to someone further south on 11th Avenue Southwest, out of view of the camera,” the officer’s report continues. “I observed that after the male motioned up the street, he crossed the street and a black SUV drove south on 11th Avenue Southwest, then remained out of view east of the camera as the male in the blue shirt walked quickly after the victim.”
While the video footage didn’t capture the assault, the officer noted he could hear the girl yelling after the suspect sped up behind her. After the screams, the black SUV drove quickly toward where the victim and suspect were.
Federal Way Police Department spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said police have received tips, however they have not resulted in the identification of the suspect at this time.
