Detectives are searching for a man who robbed HomeStreet Bank in Federal Way last week.
According to a police report, at about 6 p.m. on Feb. 18, officers responded to a 911 call from the bank, located at 33525 Pacific Highway S., and were told the suspect had fled on foot.
Three bank tellers told police the suspect entered the bank just before closing and approached the middle teller station.
The teller asked if he was a customer, to which he replied “no.” As she spoke, she opened a cash drawer and told him she would need to see his identification. When she looked down she noticed a handwritten note in front of her.
The note read, “This is a robbery. Stay calm…”
The teller’s coworker detected something wrong and began to call 911 while the teller handed cash to the suspect. He then walked out of the bank.
At no point did the suspect present a weapon during the robbery. Police later determined the stolen cash did not contain dye packs.
The suspect was described as a thin, tall male with an injury or defect to his right eye – similar to the description of another recent bank robbery suspect, police noted in the report.
Last month, a suspect with a bloody bandage over his right eye robbed a Federal Way Wells Fargo bank just before closing time as well. He was described as a white man in his 40s or 50s, 6-feet tall and skinny.
The HomeStreet Bank robbery is the fourth bank robbery to hit Federal Way in 2016. Last year, there were three for the entire year.
