FWPD defeats SKFR 50-46 in annual basketball challenge

The Federal Way Police Department overcame a late run by a shorthanded South King Fire and Rescue team for a final score of 50 46 at the Federal Way Lions Club’s Eighth Annual Helen Keller Basketball challenge.

“It was pretty tense at the end of the 3rd quarter,” said Federal Way Police Chief Andy Hwang. “We were holding on 32-31. I told the team to turn up the heat and hit more threes.”

The Lions Club raises funds for projects throughout the year supporting many local charities, seniors and schools. Crowd favorites included the hot dog barbecue and the raffle, which included giveaways of two youth bikes and many donations from event sponsors.

Ben Ferrell, son of Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell, won the kids’ Hot Shot competition. McGruff and Sparky also took time to shoot some hoops with the kids.
