Federal Way Police Department celebrates National Coffee With a Cop Day

An opportunity for police to engage the community.

Sweets, coffee, and conversation filled the morning at Asensio Coffee, where the Federal Way Police Department held its 2024 National Coffee With a Cop Day.

The event ran from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 2. FWPD community engagement coordinator Tiffany Clemmings said the department holds it quarterly, but this one was specifically held to celebrate the special day. Clemmings said this event is an opportunity for community members to talk to the police in an environment without a topic or pressure. Clemmings said they do this because police officers are usually responding to high pressure situations where they can’t have conversations with the community.

“This is just an opportunity for people to come and talk to the police and have conversations and see that they’re human, too,” Clemmings said. Clemmings said Asensio is a cozy, warm environment, and they’re looking forward to doing more of these events there, but the department does like to go to different areas in Federal Way, such as when they had their last event at Target.

Clemmings said her favorite part was when a block watch captain stopped by. Clemmings said he’s very involved with the community, and he took a picture with the chief last year and this year. She said she loves that this has become a staple yearly event for him.

Clemmings said they host these events often, so people should watch out on their Facebook or Instagram for future coffee with police events.
