Federal Way police arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the fatal Seattle shooting that occurred last Wednesday.
A 58-year-old woman, said to be the man’s grandmother, called police at approximately 2 a.m. this morning stating she overheard him talking on the phone to someone about a shooting in the Pioneer Square area of Seattle and that he was not going to turn himself in, according to a Federal Way police report.
After the tip, police arrived at Crestview West Apartments in Federal Way and located the suspect sleeping on a couch in the front room. After confirming his identity with a Texas identification card, birth certificate and social security card, police dispatch contacted the Seattle Police Department, inquiring whether they had a warrant to arrest him.
At first investigators did not have information on the suspect and he was let go but, according to the report, about 10 minutes later Federal Way police officers were notified there was probable cause to arrest the man for homicide.
The man’s grandmother said he had gone to her brother’s apartment at Mariposa Apartments, where several officers responded.
Police told him he was under arrest, to which be complied but inquired the reason why.
Both his grandmother and her brother said they “did not really know” the suspect.
He was transported to Tukwila police and then to Seattle police before he was advised of his Miranda rights. He was booked into King County Jail at around 8 a.m. today.
Several local news outlets reported on Sept. 24 that a 22-year-old man was walking on Yesler Way and Second Avenue in Seattle the morning when he was suddenly shot by two men wearing hooded sweatshirts, witnesses said.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died.
