Federal Way officials to hold public meeting for City Attorney finalists

The city of Federal Way is inviting the public to come meet the finalists for the City Attorney position, beginning at 6 p.m., Sept. 4 in council chambers at City Hall.

The city of Federal Way is inviting the public to come meet the finalists for the City Attorney position, beginning at 6 p.m., Sept. 4 in council chambers at City Hall.

The city notes that “the meeting will provide residents with an opportunity to talk informally with candidates in a relaxed setting.”

The finalists for the position are:

  • Mark Barber, Senior Assistant City Attorney, Renton, Washington
  • Jeff Capell, Deputy City Attorney, Tacoma, Washington
  • Karen Kirkpatrick, City Attorney, Tumwater, Washington
  • Pat Fitzpatrick, Acting City Attorney, Kent, Washington
  • Amy Jo Pearsall, interim Federal Way City Attorney

According to the city, following this meeting and the internal interview process, Mayor Jim Ferrell will consider selecting a nominee forward to the City Council for confirmation.

The city attorney position opened on May 26 after Pat Richardson retired. The city attorney provides “counsel to the Mayor, Council, staff and commissions and directs and coordinates comprehensive legal services for the City of Federal Way.”

The salary range for the position is $112,000 or $148,000, depending on qualifications.
