Federal Way High School senior Alyssa Iverson, golf, was selected as the Federal Way Mirror Female Athlete of the Week for Oct. 1.
Q: What is your favorite subject/class in school?
A: All science classes.
Q: What other activities/hobbies do you enjoy?
A: Golf, AFJROTC, band (alto saxophone and piano), reading, hiking and fishing with family.
Q: Person who has helped you succeed the most?
A: My parents have helped with both golf and school.
Q: The best advice I’ve ever been given by a coach is:
A: “Think positively, focus on the next shot, and forget the mistakes” — Coach Victor.
Q: Describe your pre-match ritual and your favorite post-match meal?
A: Always do a team huddle prior to first tee. Post-game: shakes and french fries.
Q: Song you currently can’t stop listening to?
A: “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.
From the sideline: FWHS senior Alyssa Iverson has been a leader on and off the golf course. As a captain, Alyssa has led the Lady Eagles both during practices and matches. She is currently leading all 4A NPSL girls golfers in points scored this season with 131. Alyssa has placed no worse than 2nd in any match this season. She shot a personal best 42 at North Shore and 43 at Riverbend. At Federal Way High School, Alyssa is the second in command as the Special Operations Officer with Rank Cadet Major for the JROTC program. She is taking AICE level Cambridge courses, is the section leader in the band program for saxophone, and an active member of the National Honor Society. Alyssa is looking to represent Federal Way High School in the WIAA post season for golf at the West Central District State qualifier and later on in the spring at the state tournament.
