Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell has called for an emergency city council meeting tomorrow to gather public input and address concerns over a proposed methanol plant in nearby Tacoma

Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell has called for an emergency City Council meeting tomorrow, Feb. 11, to gather public input and address concerns over a proposed methanol plant in nearby Tacoma.

“The placement of the proposed methanol plant so near our city’s border is concerning to me,” Ferrell said. “The potential environmental and health impacts this plant may have on our community could be severe. I am closely monitoring this situation and urge officials from the city and Port of Tacoma to reconsider allowing this potentially dangerous facility.”

Federal Way residents are encouraged to attend tomorrow’s meeting, which will at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers at City Hall, 33325 8th Ave. S.

“Tomorrow night, we will hear from our citizens and the city council,” Ferrell said. “In the meantime, I have directed Assistant City Attorney Ryan Call to voice my administration’s opposition to the construction of the plant at a public meeting later this evening in Tacoma.”

The meeting is one of three “public scoping meetings” led by the city of Tacoma. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. this evening at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center on the fifth floor, which is located at 1500 Broadway in Tacoma.
