Four new bikes were recently given to the top readers at Lake Grove Elementary in Federal Way.
For the seventh year, Thornton F. McElroy Masonic Lodge in Federal Way has partnered with Lake Grove and the Grand Lodge of Washington to provide reading rewards through the “Bikes for Books” program. Two bikes were contributed by the Lodge and two more were donated by the “Sons of Hiram” Masonic Club.
Heather Washington, student counselor, said the bikes are an additional motivation for the students to challenge themselves to read the most books they can during the school year.
About 40 percent of the students participate in the Accelerated Reader program at Lake Grove, and those receiving bikes were selected from that program.
