A 20-year-old man’s hand was partially amputated from a firework Tuesday night.
South King Fire and Rescue firefighters responded to the incident at 11:14 p.m., Fourth of July, at the Laurelwood Gardens Apartments, 29505 21st Ave. S.
Deputy Chief Gordon Goodsell said the man was holding the firework when it ignited and exploded in his hand. Firefighters applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding and believe he lost parts of at least two fingers.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
Goodsell said it was the only significant injury related to fireworks South King Fire and Rescue responded to.
It is illegal to light fireworks in the city of Federal Way.
