Chan Ok Kim, also known as Paul Kim, was sentenced March 12 to 244 months in prison for the 2008 murder of Baerbel Roznowski. Kim pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in January. He faced a sentencing range of between 147 and 244 months.

Roznowski, 66, was slain in her home May 3, 2008. She and Kim had dated for 16 years. There was a history of domestic violence in the home and Roznowski sought an anti-harassment order against Kim on May 1.

Federal Way police served the order at 8:13 a.m. May 3. Kim appeared to understand he needed to leave the home, police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said following Roznowski’s death. Police were called back to the residence later the same morning. At 11:26 a.m., they arrived and saw through a window Kim holding a knife and attempting to harm himself. Officers forced entry and secured Kim before finding Roznowski dead from multiple stab wounds.

Kim’s stay at Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his self-inflicted wounds and his need for an interpreter during his court appearances delayed the sentencing.
