Chan Kim, also known as Paul Kim, pleaded not guilty June 3 to murder in the first degree in relation to the May 3 slaying of his girlfriend, Baerbel Roznowski, 66.

Kim and Roznowski dated for 16 years. He was served an anti-harassment order the morning of May 3. He left Roznowski’s home, but came back shortly thereafter. Police responded to the house, 2012 S.W. 353rd Place, hours later to perform a welfare check when a friend of Kim’s reported the man was feeling suicidal.

Upon arrival, they saw Kim with a knife and forced entry into the house, where they found Roznowski dead of multiple stab wounds. Kim was taken to Harborview Medical Center for self-inflicted knife wounds.

Kim’s arraignment had been postponed twice prior to Tuesday because he needed an interpreter, said Ian Goodhew, King County Prosecutor’s Office Deputy Chief of Staff. He arrived for his arraignment in a wheelchair and is now being held in King County jail on $2 million bail, Goodhew said.

Kim’s next court date is June 17, when a case setting will take place.
