Washington State Patrol troopers are investigating a car accident that left one Federal Way man dead last Friday.

Ricardo Lopez Contreras, 29, was driving eastbound on Interstate 82 in Prosser (about 200 miles east of Federal Way) at around 10:52 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, when his silver 1998 Kia Sportage crossed over a “center skip line” and struck a gray 2015 Volkswagen Passat. His Kia left the road and rolled.

Lopez Contreras was wearing a seat belt but was found dead at the scene.

According to a Washington State Patrol release, troopers don’t yet know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in Lopez Contreras’ death.

There were five occupants of the Passat, ranging from age 2 to 27 years old. All were wearing their seat belts and no one was injured.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
