A Federal Way man connected to two armed robberies was arrested last night after he barricaded himself in his apartment.
A victim called Federal Way police around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and stated a male had just approached him near the library on South 320th Street and said the man had a gun and tried to rob him of his wallet. The victim fled and called police.
After taking this report, a police officer said he saw a man matching the suspect’s description. This subject fled on foot through some woods, according to Cathy Schrock, civilian operation manager for the police department.
“Then we received a call of a second robbery that had occurred in the same area approximately five minutes earlier where the suspect had his hand in his pocket stating he had a gun,” Schrock said. “He stole the victim’s cell phone.”
The suspect descriptions matched a suspect that is known to live in the area and had an active theft warrant. Police set a perimeter around the building located in the 400 block of South 321st Street and police dogs tracked the man from the robbery sites to the building.
An officer went to the suspect’s apartment and saw the man in the window. Montages were shown to the victims and the suspect was positively identified by the victims.
Police warned the man to exit the residence but he would not comply.
Officers obtained a warrant for the suspect and the apartment. CIS detectives, SWAT and BDU responded to the scene.
Police entered forcibly through the front door and took the suspect into custody without incident.
The victim’s cell phone was recovered inside the apartment.
The suspect also has a warrant for theft and he is a suspect in a recent aggravated assault against an elderly male. The man was booked into Score Jail and is awaiting filing of formal charges, according to Schrock.
