A grassroots Facebook effort by Federal Way High School alumni resulted in a celebration involving hundreds of former students at the school on Saturday, Oct. 18, homecoming weekend.

Current Federal Way High School students led tours for the alums, many of whom commented that they hardly recognized the school, given the many additions that have been built on over the past decades.

Nevertheless, most found a few familiar faces and had much to reminisce about.

The Federal Way Historical Society was on site with displays from the school’s past. Architect Barney Mansavage with SRG Partners was also there with displays and a 3-D model to share the school’s future.

Billed as the last Federal Way High School tour by the alums, the tour may not, in fact, be the very last chance to see the old building.

The district is considering holding a tour in January, after teachers have moved out of classrooms on the south side of the building and before the school is prepped for demolition.
