Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer and the Federal Way Soroptimists will host Federal Way’s 27th Annual Flag Day Celebration on June 11 at 10 a.m. at the King County Aquatic Center (650 SW Campus Drive).

The keynote speaker will be KVI Radio personality John Carlson, who hosts a weekday morning radio show and has led statewide initiatives including America’s first “Three Strikes You’re Out” ballot measure.

Art Schladerman, a World War II veteran who was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals, will also receive special recognition. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Schladerman and his unit landed at Omaha Beach. Schladerman received the Silver Star for heroism when he carried a wounded comrade back to Allied lines after their tank destroyer was blown up near Saint-Malo in 1944.

“Join me as we salute the American Flag, which remains the most recognized symbol of democracy in the world,” von Reichbauer said in a statement. “By honoring it, along with those who have served and are currently serving, we celebrate their dedication and commitment to our country’s freedom.”

The festivities will take place rain or shine.
