The Federal Way Community Garden Foundation has agreed to provide the Federal Way Community Caregivers Network community suppers with fresh organically grown produce from their gardens this summer, according to Mike Stanley, the foundation’s executive director.
Each week the produce will be harvested and delivered to the cooks preparing the suppers at Steel Lake Presbyterian Church, Calvary Lutheran Church and the Church of the Good Shepherd.
“Providing these vegetables to the community suppers matches up perfectly with the garden foundation’s mission of helping feed the needy members of the Federal Way community,” Stanley said in an email.
This summer, the community gardens at the Federal Way Senior Center and Truman High School will provide approximately 15,000 pounds of fruit and vegetables to the senior center food pantry, the senior housing apartments, the meals-on-wheels program and the community suppers.
On June 8, students at Truman picked the first batch of lettuce, spinach, radishes and more for the community suppers. Click here to view a photo slideshow.
