Federal Way Chorale awards $2,000 scholarship

The Federal Way Chorale has announced Joshua Carlisle as the recipient of the 2016 Federal Way Chorale "Don Barrows Memorial" Scholarship.

The Federal Way Chorale has announced Joshua Carlisle as the recipient of the 2016 Federal Way Chorale “Don Barrows Memorial” Scholarship.

Joshua will receive $2,000 toward his college tuition.

He is a graduating senior at Puyallup High School with 12 years of piano and vocal instruction, culminating in performing with his school’s Norselander Ensemble.

His choir teacher, George Gunther, is his musical inspiration.

Joshua has devoted more than 500 hours of his time to community service through the YMCA and has been on the dean’s list for the Running Start program over the last four quarters.

Although first accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston for piano performance, Joshua will be attending Pacific Lutheran College in the fall, majoring in vocal performance. His goal is to obtain his master’s degree and become a professor of music.

The Federal Way Chorale will award Joshua its scholarship at the Federal Way Chorale’s spring concert, “An Evening of American Folk Music” featuring Ron Kean’s “American Mass.”

The performance will be May 13 at 7:30 p.m. and May 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (515 South 312th, Federal Way).
