Federal Way Chief of Staff Brian Wilson resigns

Chief of Staff Brian Wilson recently submitted his resignation and will officially step down on Nov. 30.

Mayor Jim Ferrell accepted his notice on Nov. 16.

“I would like to thank Brian for his years of dedicated service to the people of our community,” Ferrell said in a news release. “I have had the opportunity to work with Brian in many capacities. Whether it was as Chief of Police, interim City Manager, or as my Chief of Staff, Brian Wilson has served our community with integrity and professionalism. As outstanding as he is as a public servant, he is an even better man, husband, and father. I wish him well as he begins the next phase of his life.”

Ferrell hired Wilson as chief of staff in January 2014.

In the past three years, Ferrell said Wilson helped establish the Blue Ribbon Panel, which led to the success of the nearly-complete Performing Arts and Event Center. He also helped move forward Town Square Park’s re-design, and was involved in many other efforts “to make this city a better place to live.”

Before he was chief of staff, Wilson was the interim city manager, the Federal Way Police Department’s chief of police and deputy chief, as well as an original member of the department.

Prior to his service with the city of Federal Way, Wilson served as a member of the Renton Police Department. He is a graduate of Washington State University and earned his Masters of Public Administration from Seattle University.

Wilson is also a member of the Federal Way Rotary.

Ferrell said he doesn’t believe Wilson’s resignation has anything to do with the recent Summit Law Investigation that was prompted by forgery allegations in October. Although the investigation cleared Wilson weeks later, community members remained suspicious.

The Mirror attempted to contact Wilson for comment but received no response.

Ferrell said there will be a reorganization of the Mayor’s Office, however, that information will come at a later time.
