Multi-Service Center broke ground Aug. 11 for its projected $3 million Program Services Building. The new facility will be located adjacent to the current Program Building at 1200 S. 336th St. in Federal Way.
The 8,100-square-foot facility will house additional classrooms for the growing number of students studying for their GED and learning English as a Second Language (ESL), as well as for employment skills training. The new building will also offer more private one-on-one meeting space for case management or individual tutoring, and a community meeting room. On any given week, 830 people from 19 cities throughout South King County come through Multi-Service Center’s Federal Way doors for training, support and other services. Nearly three-fourths of those served by MSC come from cities outside Federal Way.
Funding for MSC’s Program Services Building will come through capital campaign donations and financing through Sterling Savings Bank. Lead gifts have been made by The Norcliffe Foundation, Totem Ocean Trailor Express, Inc. (TOTE), Rainier Pacific Foundation, Team 80/3, the MSC Board of Directors, and additional private donors. Designed by Tonkin/Hoyne/Lokan Architecture and Urban Design, MSC’s Program Services Building will be constructed by Mountain Construction of Tacoma. The three-story building is expected to be completed in June 2010.
