Leonard Englund announced Wednesday that he is running for re-election to position #1 on the Lakehaven Water and Sewer District Board of Commissioners.
Englund has lived in the area since the 1960s and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He worked as an internet technology professional at Boeing for 27 years and has served on Lakehaven’s board of commissioners since 2009. He was re-elected in 2011.
“As a life-long member of our community, I have a view of growth that most who live here have not seen,” Englund stated in a press release. “Water gives life to a community and it is extremely helpful to know where we’ve been in order to help guide our future.
“When it comes to water and sewer, an understanding of regional/multi-jurisdictional government entities is what it takes. Lakehaven serves many more people than just Federal Way, so an eye toward the growth of the region’s five jurisdictions we serve in is where my focus is.”
According to his press release, Englund said he has been working to develop relationships with cities and King County within Lakehaven’s service area to ensure a broad approach is taken in serving efficiently within these areas.
“It’s imperative we prepare now so that these communities won’t need to worry about precious water resources and sewer service,” Englund said in the release. “It all starts with clean water. Without it there can be no community. Thanks to the forward-thinking commissioners on past and present boards, our district has enough water to supply its needs for the next 75 to 100 years. Our sewer plants, however, are starting to see increased flows.
“As our growth increases, we need experienced leadership to take us to the next level of plant expansions, all while keeping an eye toward low rates, efficiency and new technologies in wastewater treatment.”
