Jay Inslee, the Democratic candidate for Washington governor, will discuss his health care proposals at a campaign stop at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 20 at Federal Way Medical Center, 32124 1st Ave. S. The office is located just south of S. 320th St.
The announcement comes from Inslee’s press secretary, who says the candidate will discuss ideas for addressing health care costs in the state. This is an event for the press, not the public, according to the campaign.
In the August primary election, Inslee received 47 percent of the vote over Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna’s 43 percent. In King County, Inslee received 59 percent and McKenna received 35 percent in the primary.
Inslee vacated his U.S. Congress seat earlier this year to focus on running for governor in 2012. Inslee represented Washington’s 1st congressional district, which includes Edmonds and Bainbridge Island, from 1999-2012.
Mayor Priest endorses McKenna
Earlier this month, Federal Way Mayor Skip Priest endorsed McKenna for governor. See the video here.
“For over a decade on numerous issues, the one thing we found from Rob is that he has been open, he has been collaborative, and he has been willing to work for positive solutions,” Priest said in the video. “We need somebody who is looking for constructive, positive solutions to the challenges we face.”
Priest is among several local mayors in the region to endorse McKenna, including the mayors from Kent, Auburn, Bellevue and Renton.
Education forum
Both candidates have confirmed invitations to speak at an event sponsored by the Washington State School Directors’ Association. The event will be 4:15 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Evergreen Ballroom, Seattle Airport Marriott, 3201 S. 176th St. The candidates will be given time to speak and answer questions posed by elected school board members from across the state.
The event is part the first day of the two-day Legislative Assembly of the Washington State School Directors’ Association. The first day’s activities also include a legislative panel on education funding issues and a presentation by Randy Dorn, Superintendent of Public Instruction.
