Diana Noble-Gulliford has announced her candidacy for Federal Way City Council position six.
“The issues that are the most important for our city are public safety, revitalization of our downtown and economic development,” she said in a news release. “Citizens of Federal Way should feel safe in their neighborhoods, their place of work, their place of leisure and where they shop.”
She wants more proactive marketing strategies in everything from finding tenants for the empty storefronts to promoting investment opportunities downtown, she said. She also wants to see the city start a cultural festival as well as a downtown visitors center.
Noble-Gulliford has community roots that extend back before Federal Way’s cityhood. She is president of the Historical Society of Federal Way, and also has experience serving on city boards such as the planning commission.
Noble-Gulliford was among 20 applicants for the two council seats vacated in January by Linda Kochmar and Roger Freeman, who were elected to the state House. Noble-Gulliford and Kelly Maloney were selected for the two positions.
So far for this city council position, Martin Moore and Ryan Miller have also declared their candidacies. Filing deadline for candidates is May 13-17.

In other council election news:
• Federal Way Mayor Skip Priest and Deputy Mayor Jim Ferrell will face off for the mayor’s job. So far, Priest and Ferrell are the only two candidates to enter the mayor race.
• For city council position two, Kelly Maloney and Mark Koppang have filed to run. Maloney was appointed to the position in January to fill one of two vacant seats.
• Jeanne Burbidge has announced her bid for re-election to position four. She was first elected in 1997, and served as appointed mayor during her second term in 2002. So far, no challengers have come forward.
• South King Fire and Rescue Commissioner Bill Gates announced his bid for re-election for position one. He was first elected to the board in 2001 and was re-elected in 2007.
