Elderly woman dies after being hit by a friend’s car in Federal Way

A woman in her late 70s died approximately 12:19 p.m. March 22 in Federal Way’s Top Food and Drug parking lot, 31515 20th Ave. S., after she was mistakenly struck by a vehicle.

The woman and her friend, in her mid-80s, had just finished grocery shopping together when the older woman (the driver) accidentally put the vehicle in reverse before her passenger was safely inside, police spokesman Raymond Bunk said. The vehicle’s open door hit the younger woman, who fell to the ground. She died at the scene.

The incident was not intentional and no criminal charges are being pursued, he said. Names have not been released.

“There’s zero criminal aspect of it, it’s just a tragic accident,” Bunk said.
