From staff reports
As of press time Monday, Dini Duclos owned a slight lead over Hope Elder for Federal Way City Council position 7.
Duclos had 5,519 votes (50.44 percent) to Elder’s 5,384 votes (49.2 percent), according to the King County elections Web site, www.metrokc.gov/elections. There were 39 write-in votes.
Absentee ballots are still being counted. Election results will be certified Nov. 27.
Last week, early poll results showed Elder barely winning the race. Elder, a former council member, once beat current City Council member Jack Dovey by 12 votes in a past election.
Duclos and Elder each vowed to continue serving on the city’s Planning Commission if they lose the election. They are vying for the council seat being vacated by Dean McColgan, who wants to spend more time with his family.
Duclos said last week she likely will not run for City Council again if Elder wins this election.
