State Sen. Tracey Eide, D-Federal Way, on Wednesday was named the vice chair of the Senate Transportation Committee.
Eide’s appointment comes after the former vice chair, Sen. Scott White, died in October.
Duties and responsibilities of the position will include a direct role in crafting the Senate Transportation Budget, increased oversight and input on all proposals related to the movement of goods and people, and presiding over the committee in the absence of the chair.
Among the District 30 Senator’s legislative priorities is the Triangle Project at I-5/SR-18/SR-161 in Federal Way.
“It is an honor to have a greater role representing Federal Way on all issues transportation related in the state Senate, though bittersweet. Sen. White was an inspiration to many, including myself,” Eide said in a news release. “Completing the Triangle Project [I-5/SR-18/SR-161] is a major component to ensuring that people and freight can efficiently move through our region and remains a top priority. I plan to keep a watchful eye on this and future South King County transportation infrastructure projects.”
Eide is also a member of the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee and the Senate Rules Committees and serves as the Senate Democrats’ Majority Floor Leader.
