A man driving at a high speed ran his car into the median in between South 348th Street in Federal Way, sending his car flying in the air and ultimately landing on its side.

According to a Federal Way Police Department police report, at about 2:20 a.m. Feb. 7 on Enchanted Parkway and South 348th Street, the 35-year-old drive said he was making his way home to Tacoma after having a few drinks at a bar in Auburn. He was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

The man was driving a white GMC Acadia when, in a video the Mirror obtained from a public records request, the man slammed into the median along S. 348th Street at high speed, running over the rocks in the median before the car landed on its side. Passersby then helped pull him out of the vehicle.

According to the report, shortly after the crash, an officer arrived on scene and viewed the driver, who had no visible signs of injury such as blood, lacerations or bruises. Subsequently, the officer asked the driver if he had anything to drink, to which the driver said he had a few drinks.

The responding officer asked the man if he was willing to participate in a standardized field sobriety test, to which he agreed, but he asked if he could use the restroom first. The report states that the officer, as a courtesy, escorted him to the restroom at the nearby Shell gas station, and he did not see him ingest anything during that escort.

When the test began, the officer noticed that the man had watery, droopy and bloodshot eyes, and he could smell the odor of intoxicants emitted from his breath now that he was standing closer to him. The report states that after stumbling during the test, the officer advised the man that he was under arrest for DUI.

A check of the man’s driving record found that he had a suspended and revoked license in WA, and a check of his driving abstract indicated his driver’s license was suspended for a refusal of blood alcohol content test during a DUI arrest in 2023.

“I completed a DUI interview with the man. The man said he was driving. He drank beers at the Spunky Monkey located in Auburn, WA. His last drink was at about 1:30 a.m,” according to the report. “The man said he was headed home to Tacoma, WA, prior to the collision. The man said his ability to drive was affected by alcohol usage.”

The man was cited for DUI and third-degree driving while license suspended, and then booked into SCORE jail, according to the report.
