Amid a “critical decline” in volunteers at food banks throughout Washington state, local organizations including the Seattle Seahawks and former Seattle Seahawks wideout Doug Baldwin’s organization, Vault89 Strategies, are partnering to encourage more people throughout the state to volunteer at local food banks.
The drive for more volunteers will kick off with a “Back To Action Day of Service” on Sept. 23 and will run through Dec. 31, with the goal of signing up 3,000 or more food bank volunteers for hunger resource organizations across the state.
During the Sept. 23 “Day of Service” kickoff event, members of the Seahawks Super Bowl 48 championship team will be joined by Seahawks staff to volunteer. The Seahawks will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the Super Bowl 48 victory by recognizing the team during their home game on Sept. 24.
“We all have a role to play in making our communities stronger and healthier,” said Doug Baldwin, Vault89 CEO and member of the Seahawks Super Bowl 48 championship team. “So many in the region came together to support our Super Bowl championship team and now we are asking everyone to come together again to support those who have always been there for our communities – local food banks. Our local volunteerism can pay dividends in the near term while having a lasting impact for generations to come.”

Federal Way food bank
Multi-Service Center (MSC) needs volunteer drivers and helpers to pick up food donations from local grocery stores. These food donations are essential to MSC’s ability to provide approximately 1,500 households weekly with nutritious food. Volunteer drivers use an MSC van to do pick-ups from local grocery stores of food donations that are then brought back to the food bank for distribution. Each driver also has a helper who rides along to assist. Volunteer shifts are available weekday mornings and are generally a two- to three-hour commitment between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
The MSC food bank operates a market at the Federal Way location (1200 S. 336th St.), as well as a home delivery service in partnership with United Way and Door Dash and pop-up markets at senior living facilities.
