Following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:

• Troublemaking dog nearly causes car accident: At 3:24 p.m. Nov. 12 in the 30000 block of 3rd Avenue South, two vehicles nearly collided while trying to avoid a neighborhood dog. According to the report, this is the sixth time the dog had been involved in an incident of some sort.

• Unusual theft: At 10:04 a.m. Nov. 10 in the 1400 block of South 324th Street, two unknown suspects stole between 600 and 700 pounds of spent shell casings from the local gun range. The owner of the range estimated the value of the shell casings to be approximately $1,100. According to the report, video surveillance shows the two suspects accomplished the crime by moving the shell casings with two five-gallon buckets.

• Landlord and tenant argue: At 12:50 a.m. Nov. 11 in the 31000 block of 50th Lane SW, a landlord and a tenant got into an argument for unspecified reasons. According to the report, as part of the argument, the landlord cut power to the tenant’s residence, because he felt the tenant was “disrespecting him.”

• Man turns in BB gun: At 6:04 a.m. Nov. 11 in the 31000 block of Pacific Highway South, a man turned a BB gun over to police. According to the report, the man no longer wanted the BB gun anymore because “he kept dropping it and causing other people alarm.”

• Mother makes sad discovery: At 9:42 a.m. Nov. 11 in the 29000 block of 22nd Avenue South, a mother found her 48-year-old son facedown and cold to the touch in the laundry room of their house. Police and South King Fire and Rescue responded, and confirmed that the son was dead. The report notes the man had no known health issues, although there is a history of heart problems in the family.

• Thief makes big haul: At 10:23 a.m. Nov. 11 in the 32000 block of 46th Place SW, an unknown suspect gained entry into a company vehicle for an auto repair company. According to the report, the unknown suspect made off with approximately $10,000 in tools.

• Thievery fail on so many levels: At 4:41 p.m. Nov. 11 in the 1900 block of South Commons, a woman attempted to steal a $250 purse from Macy’s by placing it in a foil-lined “booster” bag. The woman attempted to leave in a vehicle but was stopped by police. During the police’s interactions with the suspect, she attempted to give her cousin’s name as her own. Her deception failed, however, when she was unable to properly spell her cousin’s name.

• Another weird break-in: At 11:48 a.m. Nov. 12 in the 30000 block of 1st Avenue South, a medical facility reported that a storage shed had been broken into. According to the report, the unknown suspects made off with $330 in items.

• Man flashes gun at couple: At 12:48 p.m. Nov. 12 in the 32000 block of 39th Avenue South, a suspect pointed a semi-automatic handgun at a man and a woman. According to the report, the suspect did this over a stolen laptop he believed the couple was responsible for stealing. The report notes that the suspect flashed the gun at the couple, in the presence of the couple’s 10-year-old daughter.

• Rifle stolen: At 6:57 p.m. Nov. 12 in the 35000 block of 12th Avenue SW, the victim reported that a rifle had been stolen from his garage. The report notes there are no suspects at this time.
