In the race for District 30 state representative position 2, Mark Miloscia is comfortably defending his seat against Republican challenger Shawn Sullivan, 58 percent to 42 percent.

Miloscia, a Democrat with conservative leanings, is about to win his seventh term in office. He credits a broad base of support for being able to survive the anti-incumbent sentiments of voters.

“This is a district that likes independent legislators,” Miloscia said at an election night gathering for Democrats at the Clarion Hotel in Federal Way. “When the ‘waves’ happen, people stay with me.”

Campaign manager Martin Moore said Miloscia’s strength is his diverse appeal.

Sullivan, a project manager for a commercial real estate company, was making his first bid for public office.

“I congratulate Rep. Miloscia on his victory and wish him the best in serving the people of the 30th District,” Sullivan said in an e-mail. “While I did not prevail in this election, I am heartened to see victories around the state for candidates who are focused on getting our state budget under control and giving Washington businesses the confidence to start investing and hiring again. I hope Rep. Miloscia continues to recognize that tax hikes are not the way to bring renewed prosperity in our state. I plan to stay involved in the public arena and work for business-friendly policies that help Washington families and get people back to work.”

According to the Public Disclosure Commission, Miloscia’s campaign raised $35,407.02 and spent $23,497.37. Sullivan raised $16,082.89 and spent $15,688.80.
