The following is a sample from the Federal Way police log:
Suspect finds wallet, uses credit cards: At noon on Dec. 20 at 160 SW Campus Drive, a man reported that he lost his wallet at Winco Foods. Someone then used his credit cards and made unauthorized charges at an unknown Taco Bell, an unknown gas station and an unknown online-type purchase. The victim did not have additional information about the transactions. The suspect is unknown at this time and the case is inactive pending further developments.
Neighbor reports burglars going door to door: At 9:31 a.m. on Dec. 22 in the 33200 block of 39th Ave. SW, neighbors reported seeing three black males in a parked gray Buick. They observed a male go to their neighbor’s house and knock on the door and then force entry into a side door. Afterward, the same males then went to another home and knocked at their door. The homeowner confronted them and they fled south in the vehicle. Police determined this vehicle was stolen from another burglary.
Man arrested for animal cruelty: At 5 p.m. on Dec. 21 in the 1000 block of S. 324th Place, a man was arrested for a confirmed $10,000 warrant out of King County after Animal Services contacted him regarding a possible animal cruelty violation. Police seized a white goat head. The man also has a criminal history of engaging in unlicensed fish dealing.
Burglars go on wine binge: At 4:20 p.m. on Dec. 22 in the 32000 block of Pacific Highway S., three black males shoplifted $271.97 worth of alcohol from the Total Wine and More store. The males then fled in an unidentified vehicle. There are no leads at this time, however, police determined these were the same males who also stole alcohol from two other Total Wine and More stores earlier that day.
Driver hits woman, yells racial slurs: At 2 p.m. on Dec. 22 at 35100 Enchanted Parkway S., a woman reported she was intentionally hit by a vehicle and then the driver yelled racial slurs. She said she was not hurt by the collision, but twisted her ankle trying to avoid the collision. A witness saw the woman walking more towards the middle of the parking lane then to the side. The witness saw the vehicle touching the woman, but could not tell if the vehicle hit her or if the woman walked into the stopped vehicle. The witness said the vehicle was traveling very slowly.
Thief climbs ladder to steal bike: At 3 a.m. on Dec. 19 in the 34000 block of First Circle S., a victim called police to report that a suspect placed a ladder next to the balcony on the second story where she lives and stole a black “Redline” bicycle that belongs to her son. The bike is valued at $250. There are no suspects or leads.
Father slams fist on driver’s hood: At 7:03 p.m. on Dec. 22 at 31601 Pacific Highway S., a man reported he was at the Best Buy parking lot when a child suddenly ran in front of his vehicle. He said a father who accompanied the child reacted by slamming his fist on the hood of the man’s vehicle. He said his vehicle suffered minor damage and he did not know the man who damaged his vehicle. The suspect fled the area prior to the victim calling 911.
Ex-boyfriend arrested for rape, assault with knife: At 1 a.m. on Dec. 21 in the 29400 block of 21st Place S., officers arrested a suspect for second-degree assault and third-degree rape. The victim called to report her ex-boyfriend assaulted her. A K-9 track from the location was unsuccessful.
The victim met with officers at the hospital with a friend, who was a witness to part of the incident. During the interview, the victim disclosed that the suspect strangled and raped her. The witness had dropped the suspect off at his sister’s residence in Federal Way, where officers arrested him. He was booked into jail for the two felony investigations.
Shoplifter says she stole items because employee blocked her: At 11:15 a.m. on Dec. 21 at 31014 Pacific Highway S., a Dollar Tree employee observed a woman concealing $6 worth of merchandise — including cosmetic items, food and tape — in her purse. She passed the cash registers and exited the store without paying. When the employee asked for the stolen merchandise back and attempted to block her path, she said no and pushed him to get by.
Police located her east of the business and detained her. They recovered the stolen merchandise and post Miranda the woman admitted to stealing the items for personal use. She apologized and told the employee that she would have stopped and given the stolen items back if he hadn’t tried to block her path. She was issued a one-year notice of trespass and was released.
Woman caught on camera stealing phone: At 1:53 p.m. on Dec. 21 at 650 SW Campus Drive, a woman said she went through the self checkout registers at Winco Foods and placed her cell phone Galaxy S2 down on a counter next to the self checkout. She grabbed her groceries and forgot her phone. She realized she forgot her phone after about 10 minutes and when she returned to the checkout area her phone was gone.
She contacted the store manager, who viewed the surveillance footage from the checkouts and footage showed an unknown female take the phone and leave the store. The suspect is white in her late 30s to early 40s, 5-feet 2-inches tall, 220 pounds, has brown hair and was wearing a pink sweater and a gray and pink tank top. She left in a gray Sedan out of the parking lot. The video footage was too blurry to see the license plate. A copy of the video footage will be submitted to police.
Dissatisfied customer threatens to bomb taco joint: At 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 21 at 2031 SW Campus Drive, a male called Taco Bell off and on for a couple of hours complaining about the quality of his order. He demanded free food and the employee said he would have to wait for manager approval. The male then said, “How about if I just bomb the place?” The business does not have caller ID and there is no suspect information. The store manager was contacted and decided to close for the evening.
Man shoots himself in hand: At 9:53 a.m. on Dec. 20 in the 33100 block of 39th Ave. SW, police responded to St. Francis Hospital for a report of a gunshot wound to the hand. There, officers discovered a 58-year-old man in the emergency room.
The man said he was loading up a magazine with new rounds for his new 9mm semi automatic pistol he had purchased. He was “dry firing” the pistol when it discharged a single round into his right hand, exiting the top side of his hand into the floor. Officers checked his residence for the gun and found his story was consistent with the evidence at his house.
Man shoots himself in thigh: At 6:29 p.m. on Dec. 20 in the 5400 block of SW 316th Place, officers responded to a second accidental gunshot wound at St. Francis Hospital’s emergency room. A 28-year-old man arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his left thigh. Hospital staff told police he shot himself as he unholstered his handgun while seated in his truck.
Officers interviewed the man who told them as he was parking his truck, he removed his Springfield XD 9mm from the hoster and removed the magazine. But when he attempted to lock the slide to the rear with his left hand, the slide slipped from his grip and a round discharged, striking him. The bullet had gone through his thigh, into the driver’s seat. He started banging on the door, which his cousin opened and drove him to the hospital.
Man allegedly points gun at woman: At 11:32 a.m. on Dec. 19 in the 33300 block of 24th Ave. SW, a 26-year-old woman told police her friend’s boyfriend pointed a handgun at her when she went to pick her up to go Christmas shopping. She said there’s a history of conflict between her and the man because she said her friend and the man have had domestic violence in their relationship. But the woman’s friend told police they had gotten into an argument about money and her boyfriend got involved, which was when the woman called police.
