A Des Moines man has pleaded guilty to a 2011 shooting that killed a 19-year-old woman and wounded a 24-year-old man in Redondo.

Johnny Rourn, 30, pleaded guilty on Friday to second-degree murder and second-degree assault, according to the King County Prosecutor’s Office. Both charges include firearm sentencing enhancements.

Jayme Thomas, 19, died after being shot early morning Nov. 5, 2011, in the backseat of a vehicle in the 800 block of Redondo Way South. Witnesses reported that an argument occurred between two separate groups before the shooting. Two unidentified men started passing a gun around, then fired shots into a vehicle where Thomas sat, according to Des Moines police. A 24-year-old male was also shot and wounded at the scene.

Thomas was a 2011 graduate of Mount Rainier High School and was studying at Highline Community College to become a nurse. As a lifeguard, she taught toddlers to swim, and was heavily involved in her youth group at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

Rourn’s sentencing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Regional Justice Center in Kent. He faces between 240 and 340 months (20 to 28 years) in prison, and prosecutors will recommend the maximum.
