Although some say 13 is an unlucky number, this wasn’t the case for the 13th annual crab feed and auction that benefitted the Multi-Service Center on June 14.

Three hundred people enjoyed crab and good company while raising more than $120,000 to provide help, hope, and change for residents of South King County.

“We are so thankful to have strong community support – from those who attend the event, those who donate items and financial support, and, of course, from the many volunteers it takes to make this event a success,” says Robin Corak, CEO of the Multi-Service Center. “Our community knows how to have a great time, but also how important it is to help others. Their ability to mesh fun and fundraising is a true testament to the commitment our community has to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to become self-sufficient.”

The Washington State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, which is operated through the Multi-Service Center, was the beneficiary of the Make a Difference campaign at this year’s event, with more than $17,000 raised to support volunteer advocates and legal services for vulnerable adults living in long-term care facilities in the community.

Organized by community members and Multi-Service Center staff, the crab feed and auction raises funds to support the center’s programs that provide pathways out of poverty for members of South King County through support and resources in education, employment, housing, energy assistance, food, and clothing, as well as statewide advocacy for elderly and disabled residents of long-term care facilities.

The event was made possible by the support of sponsors Microsoft and Umpqua Bank, and the many other businesses and organizations that provide additional sponsorship, items for the auction, and support through in-kind donations.
