The Federal Way Police Department is accepting enrollment for its Citizens Academy in the fall. Described as a series of classes designed to show residents what police work is like in Federal Way, the academy is 10 weeks long. Classes will run 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 13 through Nov. 15.
Lindsey Tiroux, crime analyst and prevention specialist with FWPD, shared that the academy is meant for learning on both sides.
“The beauty of Citizen’s Academy is that it’s a two-way educational process,” she said in a news release. “While citizens can learn what police officers do on a daily basis, the officers get a chance to hear how citizens feel about public safety issues.”
Anyone who wants to learn more about how the Federal Way Police Department operates is encouraged to apply. Preference is given to those living and working in Federal Way. Registration closes Sept. 1. Visit www.cityoffederalway.com/academy or contact Tiroux at (253) 835-6707 or email lindsey.tiroux@cityoffederalway.com.
